Life’s supposed to be fun! by Donna Himel

Life’s supposed to be fun, regardless of what you may have been told!  You did not come forth to struggle and be miserable.  It is the journey which matters most, so enjoy it.  If you were about to embark on a European vacation, would you step out onto the front porch and say “forget it, we’re just going to end up back here anyway, so I might just as well stay here?”  Of course not, because it is the incredible journey which matters most, not the destination.

We live in such a goal-oriented society which is so focused on achievement that we tend to lose sight of the fact that we are supposed to have fun in the process of achieving.  We are supposed to savor this moment, regardless of the past or the future.  As Eckhart Tolle says in his awesome book, The Power of Now, “authentic human power is found by surrendering to the Now, the present moment, where problems do not exist. It is here we find our joy and are able to embrace our true selves. It is here we discover that we are already complete and perfect.”

Enjoy the process, the creation, the learning, the discovery and the growth.  Life is not always perfect.  You came here to create a great life for yourself and expand and grow into a better person.  You are also supposed to have some fun in the process.  One of my family’s favorite movies is Family Vacation with Chevy Chase.  The Griswald’s less-than-perfect journey to Wally World in California is what created the life-time memories not the roller coaster rides.  It is usually the mishaps and the challenges which create the memories that everyone looks back and laughs about later.  So, go ahead and laugh now.

Today, no matter what is going on around me, I am going to have fun!  Even if it is only for five minutes, I am going to laugh and enjoy the present moment.  I am going to acknowledge the fact that my point of power is in the now.  I will no longer put my happiness on hold until I achieve a certain goal or desire.  I will no longer allow future worries and past regrets rob me of my God-given right to enjoy the moment.
