    Ego: Everything Good’s Outside

We’re all familiar with the term ego-maniac. What a perfect description of our ego. It can really be a maniac. It can convince us that everything good is outside ourselves. It can keep us focused on achieving to the point of not being satisfied with being. It can be the biggest obstacle on our path to enlightenment and peace.

The Power of Now by Donna Himel

If you close your eyes for a moment of peace, without regard to the past or the future, and ask yourself “what in this moment is lacking?” you will find that nothing in the present moment is lacking. If you’re not concerned about something that happened 10 years ago or five seconds ago and you don’t allow yourself to be anxious about anything in the future, two minutes from now or five years from now, you will find that there is nothing lacking in the present moment.

    Love Your Inner Child

Many people struggle with self-love and acceptance. Loving and forgiving ourselves for past mistakes or failures can be a challenge, especially if you grew up in a dysfunctional home where you felt the need to be perfect in order to keep things together at home. Perfection is impossible: we are all human and make mistakes.

    Create Magical Moments

One of the things I was always been committed to was taking memorable family vacations. There is no better way to create magical moments which will last a lifetime. My father passed away when I was a baby and I grew up with a single mom on a very limited budget. While she was incredible at creating stability and security for us and for making sure we had three square meals every day, she didn’t feel she had the time or resources available to take us on family trips or excursions.

The Power of Now and Family Movie Night by Donna Himel

After reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle on the plane ride to Toronto last week with Marvin, I was reminded of the importance of taking more time to enjoy life and not spend so much time accomplishing and doing. Last night we decided to put work aside for awhile, kick back, relax and enjoy a movie with the family. We built a huge fire and began the daunting task of choosing a movie we could all agree on.

Kids Just Want to Have Fun!

Sitting and watching Josh’s Y basketball practice yesterday, I had to marvel at the amazing ability in kids to have fun! During the hour-long practice, every child there was having an absolute blast. During lay-up drills, fun, during free-throw shooting practice, laughter and fun, during four on four competitions, more hilarious amusement and fun. I’m not talking about a little enjoyment; I’m talking about cheering, belly-laughing, ear-to-ear smiling, running, scrambling fun!

“Thin-slice” in a Blink for Personal Development Growth

Malcolm Gladwell redefined how we understand the world around us. Now, in Blink, he revolutionizes the way we understand the world within. Blink is a book about how we think without thinking, about choices that seem to be made in an instant - in the blink of an eye - that actually aren't as simple as they seem. Why are some people brilliant decision makers, while others are consistently inept? Why do some people follow their instincts and win, while others end up stumbling into error? How do our brains really work - in the office, in the classroom, in the kitchen, and in the bedroom? And why are the best decisions often those that are impossible to explain to others?

Personal Spiritual Growth and Magic of Words in “The Power Of Now”

Eckhart Tolle is the spiritual teacher of our age. It's the magic of life, in words, in The Power of Now. This book is carefully, thoughtfully and beautifully written. Not only does it illuminate the fundamental, slippery, destructive patterns of the mind or ego which confound one's spiritual and even physical well-being, but it also provides a variety of simple and practical techniques for breaking down and dissolving these various forms of mental pollution. Tolle is unique because he has personally experienced the profoundness of the "now" and can communicate this clearly to his audience.

Let Go of the Oars: Create Financial Freedom Now by Donna Himel

"Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream”. Not furiously or fiercely, but gently. True financial freedom is the absence of resistance. Some of us feel too guilty if we’re not working hard enough and achieve success effortlessly and easily. If we don’t have bloody knuckles and an aching back, we don’t feel we deserve to achieve success. Many times it is our own set of rigid rules which keep us from allowing abundance and ease to flow effortlessly into our lives. We have been programmed or conditioned into believing that there’s “no gain without pain”.
